Thanks to a new partnership between Velokhaya and an African travel company, Bike & Saddle, visitors now have the opportunity to explore the vibrant streets of Khayelitsha by bike, and in so doing, help contribute to the development of the Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy.
The fully escorted bike rides through the streets of one of South Africa's biggest townships not only allows guests the opportunity to discover the story of this Western Cape community, but visitors are able to meet the community and the inspiring youngsters of Velokhaya and experience first-hand how cycling is helping to address one of South Africa's biggest challenges, namely the empowerment and upliftment of youth living in poor communities.
According to Monde Mpongoshe, CEO of Velokhaya: “Velokhaya is proud to be a member of the Bike & Saddle Eco-Active Network, which offers South Africans and visitors to our country a truly unique travel experience.
“We are also very excited about the synergies of this new partnership and venture. Bike & Saddle’s unique product in the eco-tourism market and its social dynamic complements the work of Velokhaya and the venture will not only provide opportunities for job creation and skills development in the tourism sector, but also greatly benefit Velokhaya.
“We have been most impressed by the commitment demonstrated by Bike & Saddle’s Gustav Erlank and CEO Ben Sanders in developing our young people in this significant sector of the economy, and thank them for their support.”
