Cape Town, South Africa, August 2009.
The Life Cycling Academy's Emile Jacobs (16) - a member of the Pick n Pay Ascends team - is currently competing in European cycling events after
being chosen to represent South Africa on August 8 at Belgium's 75km Polleur Stoumont-Pilleur event.
Emile Jacobs and fellow South African Jayde Julius were the only two U16 cyclists selected by team manager Barry Austin to compete against 150 of the
best European U16 cyclists.
While bad luck saw Emile crashing during the race and finishing in 76th position, his general performance in Europe has been good with four Top 10
finishes to his name, to date.
Last year Emile, a former Under 14 South African Track and Road Cycling Champion (2007), was one of six South African cyclists to visit the Tour de
France as part of a Velokhaya delegation. Velokhaya is a fundraising and awareness programme which aims to use the sport of cycling to uplift and
empower South African youth.
Emile, who lives in Paarl, Western Cape, will return to South Africa at the end of August 2009.
