Cape Town, South Africa, March 2009.
Mxolisi Mdletshe, a Bachelor of Commerce (Strategy Management) student, visited the Velokhaya
BMX Oval in March and our Velokhaya cyclists were very impressed when they heard about his 1 464km cycle from Pretoria to Cape Town in December last year.
He rode across South Africa at the end of last year in order to "inspire South African youth." He cycled 160km every day, on his own, sleeping in police
stations at night and reached thousands of South Africans on his journey at stops along the way by speaking to them on radio stations.
"Drugs, alcohol abuse and apathy are destroying South African youths' dreams. Because I have dreams and aspirations, doors have opened for me. My goal is
to help raise a new generation who can dream broader than what they know; to uplift the youth through education," Mxolisi said.
We salute his commitment to making a difference to the lives of others and look forward to welcoming him back to Velokhaya soon!
