Songezo And The LCA
I joined the LCA in 2005 -at the time the LCA had a club in Masiphumelele near Fish Hoek and I joined it after watching the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour.
When I joined the LCA, I couldn't ride a bicycle.
I began cycling when I was 15 years old.
I feel very proud to be the 2010 Under 23 Western Province Champion knowing that five years ago I didn't even know how to ride!
The LCA has been like a family to me. It has given me the support - both in terms of cycling and my school studies - my parents have not been able to give me. My mother passed away in 2002 and my father in 2004 and a lot of what I've achieved would not have been possible without the LCA.
My advice to those children who have lost their parents at a young age is to always be positive. Things happen that you have no influence over and you have to accept that you can't change the situation. There is no use feeling sorry for yourself;
instead you have to realise that no matter what circumstances, we all have potential and we have to use the talents God gave us.
My cycling dream is to be a member of a pro-tour team.
Cycling has allowed me to help my family.
I train more than 16 hours a week.
I don't participate in any other sport.
Cycling has taught me: "Never give up without a fight."

About Songezo

I was born on 17 September 1990 in Umtata, the Eastern Cape. I came to live in Cape Town when I was 15.

I am currently finishing my schooling through Damelin College.

Maths is my favourite schools subject.

I have two brothers and a sister. Our parents passed away in 2002 and 2004. My late mother's sister is our guardian.

One of the biggest obstacles I face is dealing with motorists who don't respect the rights of cyclists.

My cycling hero is is Fabian Cancellara.

I would most like to meet Nelson Mandela.

My favourite food is pasta.

I enjoy watching 'Generations' on TV - I learn a lot from it.

My favourite musician is Rihanna.

I relax by reading.
